Man steals woman’s electric scooter from Myrtle Beach park, hits her with stick as she chased him, reports say

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A 42-year-old man is facing several charges in Myrtle Beach after allegedly stealing someone’s scooter, hitting them with a stick while they chased him and trying to break into someone’s house with a shovel, according to reports obtained by News13.

Shyneek Chestnut was charged with common law robbery, violent second-degree burglary, first-degree assault and battery, identity fraud to avoid detection by law enforcement, trespassing after notice and giving a false name or address.

The first incident happened on Oct. 14 when police responded to the area of Acline Avenue and Crimson Street for a robbery, a report said. When officers arrived, a woman who “seemed panicked, out of breath and crying” said her electric scooter was charging in Bathsheba Park when Chestnut stole it.

The woman told police she started chasing Chestnut while he was on the scooter when he picked up a stick and broke it by hitting her on the head, according to the report. Chestnut also allegedly said he would “f– her up” if she kept chasing him before riding away.

Another person witnessed the incident and started chasing Chestnut through a trail on Acline Street until they were hit on the head with a brick. The report noted, though, that the person’s head “did not reveal any injuries from a brick or other heavy object.”

More than a week later, on Wednesday, officers responded to Carver Street for a burglary, according to a report. The person told police Chestnut was at the back of the house breaking the rear bedroom window out with a shovel and attempting to flip the window lock to open it.

Chestnut fled the scene before police arrived, the report said. He was then arrested later on Wednesday after police responded to another burglary call on Dunbar Street.

Chestnut gave responding officers an ID that was not his, the report said. Then, when he arrived at the jail, he also allegedly gave officers a fake name.

Chestnut was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Thursday, online records show. As of this writing, he remains in jail on bonds totaling more than $525,000.
