Section 9 boys soccer bracket 2024
The Section 9 boys soccer tournament will feature 26 schools in six classes. Play begins Tuesday, October 29, and concludes with three finals on Saturday, November 2, and two more on Tuesday, November 5. The top seeds are Monroe-Woodbury (Class AAA), Washingtonville (AA), Our Lady of Lourdes (A), Mount Academy (B) and Rhinebeck (C). Chapel Field is declared the Class D champ as the only entry.
Middletown's Faller Field will host the sectional finals, as well as the state Final Four on Nov. 15-16-17.
In the latest state rankings, Monroe-Woodbury is No. 17 in Class AAA; Washingtonville is No. 7, Goshen No. 12 and Cornwall No. 13 in Class AA; Beacon is No. 3 and Our Lady of Lourdes is No. 5 in Class A; Mount Academy is No. 2 in Class B; Rhinebeck is No, 2 in Class C.
The state playoffs begin the first week of November. The AAA winner will host Section 4 or 1 in a quarterfinal at Marlboro on Nov. 9; the AA winner will host Section 4 in a quarterfinal at Marlboro on Nov. 9; the A winner will play the Section 1 champ at Hendrick Hudson in a first-round playoff on Nov. 6, and then travel to Union-Endicott to take on Section 4 on Nov. 9; the B winner will play the Section 1 champ in a first-round game on Nov. 6 at Yorktown, the winner facing Section 4 at Union-Endicott on Nov. 9; the C winner will host Section 1 in a first-round match on Nov. 6 at F.D. Roosevelt, the winner moving on to face the Long Island champ at Diamond in the Pines on Nov. 9; the D champ will host the winner between Section 11 and 2 in a quarterfinal at Marlboro on Nov. 9.
In 2023, No. 3 Kingston beat Middletown in the AAA final; No. 1 Cornwall beat No. 2 Goshen in the AA final; No. 3 Beacon beat No. 1 Our Lady of Lourdes in the A final; No. 1 Spackenkill beat No. 2 Rondout Valley in the B final; No. 2 Mount Academy beat No. 1 Rhinebeck in the C final; and, No. 1 Chapel Field was the lone entry in Class D.
Once in the state playoffs, Kingston bowed to Arlington 2-0 in the quarterfinals; Cornwall bowed to Scarsdale 2-0 in the quarterfinals; Beacon bowed to Byram Hills 2-1 in the quarterfinals; Spackenkill won three playoff games before losing to East Aurora 2-1 in the finals; Mount Academy won all three matches, beating Elba-Byron-Bergen 4-1 in the finals; and, Chapel Field bowed to Loudonville Christian 9-1 in the quarterfinals.
